If you have seen some other recipes on this website you might have seen the one for Grilled Buffalo Wings. You can read more about buffalo wings here. Here we talk about the sauce. This sauce is delicious and also goes great with other things such as pizza, pork chops or whatever you fancy.

Is Buffalo Wing Sauce Spicy

Buffalo wing sauce is a vinegar-based cayenne pepper hot sauce with melted butter that is coated on the chicken wings prior to serving. Since it is by nature a cayenne pepper sauce, it is “burn your ass off hot”. Mixing it with butter and Worcestershire sauce really does nothing to mellow out the spicy hot nature of this sauce. In order to do that you must introduce a few other ingredients that help make it milder. This recipe does that so that next time you serve buffalo wing sauce, your wimpy ass friends aren’t complaining that it is too hot.

How To Make Buffalo Sauce Milder

So what do you add to mellow out this sauce? Well for my recipe tomato sauce is the other major ingredients besides Franks Buffalo Wing Sauce. There are other recipes that call for ranch dressing. I for one have never tried such a recipe. I like this recipe a lot because it retains that tomatoey pepper flavor. I do like the flavor adding a little ranch dressing gives the sauce so I add a wee bit.

Freezing And Canning Buffalo Sauce

It is super simple to freeze buffalo wing sauce. Just put it in a freezer safe container and pop it in the freezer. As for canning the sauce, it is a great way to preserve your sauce. However, since there is butter in this recipe, you should probably use a pressure canner to do the job right. I have done some canning, however, I am by no means an expert. If you decide to can your sauce, please consult some experts in the field of canning. There are lots of great recipes on canning and lots of people on Facebook and on the net who love to talk canning and love to help out. While I don’t give a shit about a lot of things, I would hate to see some asshole get sick.

For those who can't handle the heat of buffalo sauce, here is a nice wimpy, I mean a mellow alternative to firey Franks hot sauce.

Course: Appetizer
Cuisine: American
Servings: 6 people
Ingredients
  • 1/2 c butter
  • 1 c Franks hot sauce or hot wing sauce
  • 1/2 c tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tbsp ranch dressing (optional)
Instructions
  1. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the rest of the ingredients and bring to a boil.

  2. Simmer slowly for 3 to 5 minutes. Do not overcook or you will fuck up the taste of the garlic.

  3. Remove from heat and if desired add ranch dressing. This will mellow the flavor even more.

  4. Use for wings or as a buffalo chicken pizza sauce.

Recipe Notes

For a more tomatoey sauce, use a whole cup of tomato sauce. This recipe makes a lot so you can freeze it and use it later.
